USPS Parcel
Posted by 379 Peterbilt on May 02 2006
If you keep your packages under 70 pounds, you can ship from Wisconsin to Alaska for around $45. I did this last year. I shipped a small outboard motor @ 68 pounds and a cooler full of campgear @ 65 pounds. The bill was well under $100 and that was with insurance and delivery confirmation.

As for timing, you can call the post office and inquire as to how far out ahead you should send your gear, but the problem is they will have no clue. What I did was send my gear 5 weeks ahead of the date I was to arrive. One package made it in about 3.5 weeks, the other made it in just under 5 weeks. And this was to a remote village, not Anchorage or Fairbanks.

5.5 or 6 weeks might even be a better option to Kotz. The only worry is if your gear gets there 30 or more days ahead of you, as the post office is only required to hold it for 30 days before they send it back to you. But I would rather error on the side of it getting there earlier than later.

If you go this route, send it marked as "general delivery" in care of yourself.

Good luck
