The emergency room Dr. at Providence looked at the finger. She talked out loud as she said, "Ok, finger swollen like a sausage" She then pushed on the palm of my hand, which caused me to yell out in pain. She then announced to me that it was Tenosynovitis, now that was her diagnosis. I don't remember the hand surgeon using that term. He said the infection was inside the tendon sheath. When he cut it open he flushed it with copious amounts of saline with antibiotic. The surgeon was excited to take a sample once he cut it open and grow a culture, but they never got any growth.
