I've never tried it but.....I was told by a bowhunter who hunts in the Nancy Lake park area that he calls them in with a predator call.  I also got a video about bear calling for Christmas which shows some hair raising results from blowing on a screamer call.  I think most of the time the hunter knew there was a bear in the area and had a general idea of where he would come from.  The bears wasted no time heading for him!  He got so close to one that he was able to spray it with bear spray (he was unarmed to boot).  So, you might take a predator call with you when you go and if you see a bear in the area give it a blow and see if he comes running.
