I have been wearing the Schnees for for years both up north and here in Southeast Alaska.  As long as you keep the leather treated (use the Montana brand Schnees sells) the leather will stay dry.  I wade in fresh and salt water with mine.  They don't leak unless you go over the tops.  I would not, however, stand for long periods of time in water with them.  Nothing but rubber or other suitable wader material is built for that.  You might try the Cabela's Bog Buster wader.  They are light weight, the boots conform nicely to your ankles and they have the air bob soles.  I wear them on the Stikine Flats while hunting waterfowl and they have held up for 5 years.  Like all neopreme boots, you need to watch them and take shoegue with you.  I would not buy the ankle fit boots Cabela's sells, you can't get them off by yourself.  Jim
