Spring Waterfowl Hunt
Posted by VernAK on Apr 26 2006
The 2006 Alaska Subsistance Spring/Summer Migratory Bird Harvest is underway. Geese and swans are plentiful and I hear some serious shooting at times. I know of no respectable Deltoids involved. The Delta F&G Advisory Committee and Delta Sportsmen's Assn both weighed in heavily in opposition to this hunt as we do not see hunting in Delta grain fields as being "traditional and customary". There is no significant Native Alaskan population near the Ag Project. We proposed changes but were told to take a hike.

I seriously doubt if many of the hunters including those of foreign origin can distinguish a tundra swan from a trumpeter nor do they care.

A young fellow stopped in the local sports shop and bragged of the 22 geese he had shot that morning and was going back for more as there is NO LIMIT!

If any of you would like a great horned owl for dinner, please send me a proxy tag.....they are legal!

But seriously, we need your help. Please contact Stevens/Murkowski/Young as this is a Federal issue. This is the most egregious hunting regulation that I have ever heard of.

Thanks for your ear.
