incidental grizz
Posted by JDM on Apr 26 2006
Look on the back of you bait station card...if not there it is addressed in the regs...something to the effect: You may not take a griz/brown bear at or near a bait station if you know or should have known that the movement/actions of the bear are affected by the bait station. This could be interpreted different ways, but I think the way you addressed it to your friend is how the Troopers want it interpreted. I have had the same thoughts regarding traveling to and from the baits...If you kill the bear and it has a doughnut in it's mouth then you are busted if the trooper shows up...grease in the claws or non the fur, dog food residue in between it's can you know, even if it is not "on " the bait that its activity has has or has not been affected by the bait unless you shoot it and then find the evidence? They really don't give much detail regarding how far away from a bait site a bear has to be in order for its activity to no longer be "affected" by the presence of a bait station. This probably doesn't answer your question, but is a worth topic for more discussion.
