Keeping bears and bait around longer
Posted by Hickory on Apr 25 2006
Been kicking this idea around for a bit.  I've only baited once but with a good turnout from the big furry critters.  Never got to hunt that particular bait due to time issues, but boy did that bait disappear quick.
Here's my idea,  going to have traditional barrel on the ground offering relatively easy access to some bait (barrel with 8-12 inch hole in one end).  New part though is going to be metal 5 gallon bucket with lid.  Thinking of cutting 2x4 to fit in very  top of bucket and holding this in place with a couple bolts and a heavy eyelet on each side.  Next thinking of hole sawing 4, 1-1.5 inch holes on bottom edge of bucket.  Idea is to suspend whole aparatus above ground so bear can shake the heck out of it and get just a bit at a time and make some good noise.  Hopefully bait will stay dry and last longer.  Thinking of suspending bottom of bucket at 6-7' above ground to hopefully avoid tear downs from all but the very largest customers.  Is this sounding good or is the hanging bucket too much?  Thanks for thoughts, just wanted to hear if i'm on a good trail.
