No Way to stop this.
Posted by Alaskacanoe on Apr 19 2006
NO way to stop this, Unless they were raised to know that poaching and waste are wrong. And then You still can't control everyone.  sometimes Even if you raise them up right. I guess that is why they call it Youthful Indescretion. It is indeed a sad thing. About 6 years ago one of my sons was out on a camping trip with his buddies (In High School) one boy shot a Swan with a 22. It's Mate stayed by its side long after it had died. It really disturbed my son and he came home and told me about it. He said that the boy that shot the Swan had no emotion or care, and the boy thought it to be funny. We went over to the boys home to talk to his parents and him about the act. And found he did not have a father in his life, and had no training with a gun or outdoor ethics training from a Mentor. ( I asked him to call the fish and game. the boy paid the fine and worked some of it off. I stood with the boy through it all). We became very close through this, and I made an effort to take him with us on all our outdoor trips. Did it pay off? He called me last month to tell me he was accepted in to Medical school.
He thanked me for being there for him all these years. I would have never known this boy except for what happened with the Swan.
I find it almost impossible that someone from the village did not know that the boys had these claws in possession long before the Cops came a knocking. I know kids, they talk and someone knew about those claws either in school or at home. They should have been turned in by family or community. You can't expect the children to behave if the parents and adults don't show a better example.
