I would go with the 8 man with a large stove.  I have a six man tipi with a medium stove for hunting. With just two people it is perfect, enough room for you and gear and still room to move around.  So 3 -4 may be tight in a 6 man.  My rule of thumb when buying tents is buy a tent/tipi that will sleep double the number of people that you plan on having use it.  Makes things a little more comfortable.
