Do yourself a favor & go with the 8 man.  For your use, it will be ideal.  I have an 8 man & have found it great for 2 & almost too small for 4.  I think the footprint doesn't matter much - no floor so if you have to pitch over a rock or stump, it doesn't matter - let your friends argue who will sleep on it.  I also have the large stove - you could use either the medimum or large and probably won't notice much difference.  Don't expect a long burn time, they need constant feeding - 45 minutes or so is as long as I get out of mine - but it will really throw the heat.  Get the liner to go with it - if you use it in warm weather or in humid conditions the condensation can get pretty heavy.  The liner will take care of the condensation.
