Meindle Boots
Posted by bizymocha on Mar 30 2006
Bill,
The Meindl Alaskans and the Lowa Sheep hunters are almost identical boot. I can say that because I wore the Alaskans and my sheep guide wore the Lowa's. They looked almost the same. This was my second AK. hunt with mine and they really worked fine. Seven days and hiking and climbing added up to 56 miles. Not a blister, a hot spot or a water leak. The guide had previously used the Koflach plastic boot but he said it usually took a week to 10 days to recover. He was very impressed with his Lowa's - from Schnee's in Montana. We know that Meindl made the boot for Cabela's and we both thought they made the boot for Lowa too. I can't vouch for that but what I can say is that they were the best ever for me.
You are correct in getting the best boot and fit possible. Bad boots will ruin your hunt faster than rain, poor food or even a poor sleeping bag. If your feet hurt, you are done. I watched the other hunter in camp limp around with his new boots that were never broke in! He paid a big price. Good luck with your hunt.
