shots

I personally do not think Mr. MS~ is implying or tryin to cover himself in his previous point.  I think he is trying to make a very valid and excellent point.  A person should not come out and say they would take the shot, hands down.  From the origianl post the thing that bothers me the most is it is your only chance at a shot, if that is the case you are being to hasty in the first place and it is not time to shoot.  I have seen many a moose staring at me and often it can be hard to tell if they are 3 or 4 B tiners or more than a spike or fork for that matter.  Be a little more patient in the field and more times than not this animal will present a great shot for you.  Sometimes they don't, thats why we hunt.
I am a believer in larger calibers when hunting game, I think it a responsible thing to do IMO.  I do know many peolple use what I belive to be a small caliber for the game they are persuing and be very successful, and I have also seen many big bore calibers hit game only to have them merely flinch.  We owe it to ourselves as sportsmen and conservationists to take game in a ethical and proficient manner.  I treat my opinions and comments in this forum as I would as a guide in the field with a client, and while I was, I can honestly say I never allowed a client to take a head on shot, I always believed that I was good enough to find a cleaner path, more lethal, and generally easier shot.
By the way great post at lest it has many of us thinking as to why or why we shouldn't take a certain shot.
