I'd shoot for sure

Personally I rather enjoy a neck shot.  The diameter of the spinal cord is the same diameter anterior as lateral.  In fact if your going for the neck you have a chance of smacking at least one side of the  Vertebral artery from the front considering they run parallel with the cord.  From the side if ya hit the spine your golden no matter what. Heck if ya go for the spine your bound to take out the Jugular as well.  I prefer a neck shot on deer sized game.  I've just never taken a neck shot that went bad.  Other than having the shot clear the neck and imbed in the pelvis.  I smacked two Blacktails this season right between the eyes.  That was easy as I didn't have to saw off the skull caps to take home antlers or do a lick of tracking.  My partner who was raised in Alaska swears by the head shot because "If I miss, the animal gets off without injury".  I've seen the jaw blown off an animal and the precusion from that shot puts em'down but a follow up is neccessary.
Difficult call as I believe I've taken a few of each shot.  Only once did I miss a head shot and that was on a cliff with the animal looking strait down at me. Of course he got off with out injury. In fact I think I saw the same buck the following year on the same hill but I had already shot his little brother and was making my way home.
Get to the gun range.  I practice hitting the bulls eye, off hand, at 50yrds every year.
