General Land Status Map
Posted by adfraiser on Mar 01 2006
I determine land ownership for a living and can tell you land ownership can be difficult. A general Land Status Map is only a general map and is usually only accurate to the section level. Even then, it is a general map and will not typically show all the private or Alaska Native Corp. lands. So be careful when using General Land Status Maps.

If you are planning to hunt within the Matanuska Susitna Borough, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Fairbanks North Star Borough, or Municiaplity of Anchorage, you can use theese website to determine ownership:

ANC-http://gisweb.ci.anchorage.ak.us/website/anchorage/application/disclaimer2.htm

KPB-http://www.borough.kenai.ak.us/gisdept/IMS/disclaimer.htm

FNSB-http://gis.co.fairbanks.ak.us/website/fnsbgis/Run.htm

MSB-http://www.matsugov.us/DWF_Maps/support/maplist.cfm
For the Mat-Su Borough, you will have to determine the TAXID,
and then check the following link:
http://www.matsugov.us/realpropertyquery/search4.aspx

Since most of your hunting will likely occur outside of these areas, You will need to utilize the BLM and DNR data which may require a trip to BLM or the Recorder's office, but a majorty of the research can be done online.

I typically use the latter of the following websites for my research:
