First let me say that in most cases, I agree with Michael on this one. I never let the fact that an "animal may get away and this is the only shot I have" come into play when I'm deciding whether or where to shoot. If the animal gets away that day, so be it. There's always tomorrow and if not the same animal, there will be another. The animals outsmart or outluck me some days, and on others I'm smarter or luckier.

That being said, in this case I'd take the neck shot if I have a good rest. Not because the animal might get away, but because at 50 yards with a good rest that's a shot I'm comfortable taking. I might go so far as to say that if you aren't comfortable with a 50 yard neck shot (with a good rest) you aren't spending enough time at the range. And I'd also suggest you shouldn't be taking 200 yard chest shots then either. I've seen a lot more wounded animals from 200 yard or farther shots than 50 yard ones.
