I would definitely take the shot the head-on / 50 yard on – with a 35mm camera; otherwise, IMO – there is no question because there is NO shot.  To later qualifying the question as a “survival situation” to get the answer may only fuel the belief that it should be done; of course it can be done, as some have attested, but again, IMO because of the high margin of error / or “low percentage”.  Head-on you stand a great risk of morality wounding the animal and with hours to survive will out-distance you in no time  – especially since “it’s getting dark” … No, there is NO shot.
