BLM
Posted by martentrapper on Feb 28 2006
A BLM office should be able to provide anyone with a map that will show, fairly well, private land boundaries within an area someone wants to hunt. I'm not sure about the state DNR. I would assume they can too.
You have to know about several types of private land. Even in federal lands such as refuges, parks, and preserves, there can be private inholdings. Without a map, it would be very difficult to know where all private lands are in an area.
Like the other posters, I've had a variety of experiences. Some landholders don't make an effort to restrict access. Some are adamant that only locals, or shareholders, use their lands. Some wish to charge access fees. Often times, corporate land holders don't have the resources to effectively police their land, or any method in place to prosecute violators. I've heard the State Troopers are spotty on where and when they will enforce private land protections.
