When we began doing our walk in moose hunt we were sure that we were on state land. A dozen miles in we encountered a No Trespassing sign. We kept going because we were nearly where we wanted to be. Turns out there was a copper miner that (leased?) about 4,000 acres. We were weary and hoping he wouldn't be too angry. He wasn't; if anything he was glad to see us and impressed at what we were doing.

Since then we have had access through his land (we have hunted the later part of the season recently so we rarely see him there anymore). Every fall we drop off some moose meat for him and his wife and tell him about the hunt and he has welcomed us back and has allowed us to use a cabin as we pass through.

Besides that I have not accessed private land to hunt. I respect Private Property signs and No Trespassing signs and am much more diligent regardng finding out about landownership and hunt planning.
