User Fees / Trespass Issues
Posted by Michael Strahan on Feb 28 2006
Hi folks,
With a lot of people planning their fall hunts here, I'm curious what your experiences have been concerning private lands, including native corporation holdings?
1. How do you know who the landholders are in the area you're hunting, and how to contact them for permission?
2. What sort of reception are you getting from landowners when you ask to hunt on their lands?
3. Are you being asked to pay user fees? If so, how much?
4. Are there any patterns with the various native corporations (CIRI, Doyon, etc.) in terms of refusal, user fees, etc? In other words, does it always hold true that if you're hunting on XYZ Corporation's land anywhere in the state, you will pay a fee of X dollars?
5. Is there a different scale of fees for commercial users? Do commercial users (guides) receive any sort of exclusivity on their areas, or are multiple guides allowed to hunt the same areas?
This information could be valuable to inexperienced Alaska hunters, and could keep some folks out of uniintended trouble.
