Spring blackies
Posted by Michael Strahan on Feb 28 2006
Steve,

Way to go!  I think this is a fine way to introduce your young one to hunting.  At the risk of being called "The Ethics Nazi" (not for the last time, I'm sure), I believe spot and stalk is a more sporting method than popping one from a tree anyway.  Well... uh... THAT will sure elicit a response from some!  I guess I'm in one of those moods.

Ah... where were we?  Oh yes.  Spot and stalk.  The general pattern seems to me that they come out from dens up high and make a beeline for the low country.  THis is where the green stuff is.  You want to be out there perhaps in late April, but for sure May.

Have a great time and please let us know how it went!

"Waidmanns Heil" (I think that's German for "Good Hunting")

:-))
