Anise oil
Posted by AlaskaCub on Feb 28 2006
the best places to get it are like herb and aroma type stores, actually kind of funny going into a granola store to buy an oil for bear hunting. I order it off the internet now in larger quantities (more cost effective)and just make sure it says anise OIL, and that it is not alcohol based. The grease is the ultimate tool for getting more bears on to your bait as the bears that visit the bait walk away and spread that grease smell off their feet for miles along their travels and other bears cross the scent and follow it back to the bait these are just a few tips that mixed with dog food will work just about anywhere. The anise oil is something the bears start to associate with fresh bait too, as sometimes there are bears that dont move very far from the bait station when they smell the strong fresh smell of the anise oil they know you have been there and that there is fresh bait. They are like rats ,easy to train. Provided you have a healthy black bear population in the area you hunt these 3 things will make you successful. The other ultimate stink bait for a new bait station is beaver carcases especially ones that have been in a sealed bucket in the sun or a hot room(boiler room), hang one of those in a tree in a burlap sack with 550 cord and watch the acrobatics begin, and I guarantee you it will get ate before anything else.Hope this helps.
