I think I get it
Posted by Rod in Wasilla on Feb 02 2006
OK. I understand the reproduction rate issue. But I gotta tell you, unless hide prices go through the roof, there would be little incentive for me (and many others like me) to hunt brownies more than I do. Maybe others would hunt more because of this? How many? Is that the heart of the debate?

I think that hunting trips are so expensive these days, even for a local resident, that the offset in cost by selling the hides would be minimal at best. It's not like the State is offering a bounty, right? Still can only harvest one per year (or one in four). Still have to abide by the regulations. (I don't think poachers wil be dragging their hides off to F&G to have them sealed for sale... or maybe they would.)

I guess I just don't understand all the hubbub. Maybe because I've never actively hunted bear. (As I write this I am looking at the small griz and the BIG blackie on my wall that my grandparents gave me.)
