Sustained yield
Posted by B_M on Feb 01 2006
Akres - I don't necessarily disagree with you on any point, I just wanted to stress that the AK Constitution mandates maximum SUSTAINED yield.  Some of the management practices suggested by hunters are all about a maximum current yield that cannot be sustained.  As for those retired F&G biologists, perhaps they know something we do not about what the game populations can actually bare on a sustained basis.  Lots of moose harvested over the next four years?  Great.  But what about the next 20-50 years?  That's what sustained yield is about.  I'm certain you don't take issue with any of this...I guess I'm just imploring us to take a long-term view.
