My facts
Posted by Bighorse on Feb 01 2006
I killed a Coastal brownie this spring using my 300WSM with 180 grain fail safe bullets.  Our encounter was so close that I first pulled my pistol, 454 Casull, when I realize he wasn't gonna charge.  I gently laid it down.  Put my crosshairs right in the shoulder spine region and put him down.  He was imobilized and I carefully placed a heart lung shot and it was game over.  Both rounds completly cleared him and I felt very well about the round performance.  The first round cleared the hard bone of the shoulder and then completly obliterated the spinal column.

I used the same gun to place an awsome offhand shot in the rainforest this fall. I had a blacktail looking at me and thats the only shot I had before he would have disapeared.  I leveled on him and blasted his antlers right off.  I didn't break them, I just shot him right smack dab in the middle of the face.

This is "my" gun.  Oiled and well worn stock.  Carried through miles of brush.  Carefully stored and sighted.  My gun is a trusted tool. I practice off hand, laying down, long and short and timed drills with multiple targets. Its also helpfull to have a degree in Radiological Sciences. I really see whats behind a shoulder before I'm pulling the trigger.  Ya need to know if your hitting lung, diaphragm, heart, scapula, spine, ect.....
