Layne Simpson survey
Posted by LaneW on Jan 31 2006
I read an article by Layne Simpson about 4 years ago (right before my brown bear hunt) in which he analyzed an outfitters log of brown bear hunts for the calibers used and number of shots used per bear. The .270 and the .30-06 had the highest percentage of one shot kills in that outfitters log over the years. FYI, I bought a .300 Rem ultramag for my hunt and shot him three times with 180gr Trophy-bonded Bearclaws in the chest in rapid sucession at a range of about 50 or 60 yards. I felt like I needed the .300 for confidence.
