At the Knik river access and the area surrounding, there has been a cat problem for at least the past three years. Those of you that have hunted down there might remember seeing kitty tracks all over the place. I ran into a feller from Mat-Su Borough last year that was setting traps for them and told me about the problem. I thought that it might be a nice addition to snowshoe hunting and managed to bag me a nice male last year. This year I got a shot at a nice black kitty which I missed, using a .22 revolver. As far as I can tell, there are few of them critters out there. Seeing as there has not been much snow in the last few years and that the amount of mice and shrews down there is out of site, I would say that they would have no problem surviving and breeding. This area seems to be a convenient place to drop and ditch pets as I yelled at a couple in a van that were trying to dump a mutt off this summer while I was launching my boat. Previous: Seriously?
