[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Best Costal Brown Bear Rifle Posted by .338 mag. on Jan 31 2006 Even though my "geterdone" rifle is a custom Mod 70 .338 I still think the best Brown Bear combo going is a pre-64 Mod. 70 .375 H&H with the right bullet. Why? Plenty of power and manageable recoil for the fast repeat shots. They hold 4 in the magazine and one up the spout. Good iron sights, gun and cal. had proven reliability long before any of us showed up. Carried by a whole bunch of old bear guides and Alaskan hunters. African pro's speak highly of this combo also. That rifle was ready to go out of the box. Something I can't say about the current crop of mass produced rifles. I know there are bigger and badder out there and custom rifles but the old pre-64 .375 H&H will always get my vote. No, I have never shot anything with a .375 but I can still vote!
