Preferred species
Posted by B_M on Jan 30 2006
Darrell - My first suggestion would be to determine which species is your priority.  While there are many areas that hold both moose and caribou, you'll have a better shot at success if you target one of those as your primary species.  Great caribou habitat is not likely to hold a large number of moose, nor is great moose habitat likely to hold many caribou.  Black bear and wolves can be found in most areas, so I would choose between the above two species for a focus.  Once you have that determined you'll have a much easier time determining where to hunt and what outfitter to choose.

Also, this is suggested all the time, but I can't stress enough how valuable it is to spend some time reading through the archives here.  Try a number of different word combinations and read, read, read.  There are years of posts available, so you may as well make use of the wisdom of those who have written before.  After that, you'll be able to ask much more specific questions.

One more thing:  If you're looking to book for 2006 you'll want to do this as soon as possible.  Outfitters book up pretty early.

Good luck!

-Brian
