Dave, good points made here. I grew up in Texas hunting from a tree stand, but without the high fences. In maybe 10 years, I shot two deer from that place. and yes, we fed corn a lot then. Saw lots of other critters eating the bait, too, such as squirrels, crows, and cows. But we were not allowed to shoot the cows. Too bad, some of them would have been pretty tasty!
There is another debate that rages still in the deep south (Louisiana, Mississippi,) that has to do with hunting deer with hounds. I am not a dog man myself, but there are many who are and I will not demonize them. As there become less and less places to run dogs, their sport will eventually go by the wayside. I hope it is 100 years before hunting here in Alaska does the same. See you when you get here, Coastie!     Kid
