I've always carried a shotgun for bear protection which I never would have questioned.  But I use my four wheeler constantly in the summer and it was a pain to carry on my back and ride.  So I bought a smith and wesson .44 mountain gun and I've heard a lot of different opinions on this.  I've heard the .357 is enough and the .500 isn't can some one actually tell me if my .44 will work for a self defense bear pistol?
