cost

well I consider hunting both a grocery store trip as well as entertainment expense.  Some times I dont come back with a harvest. some times I do.  I would rather go out and spend money on gas to hunt and bring nothing back then go to the grocery store for half an hour and come home and wonder what the hell to do with the rest of my day.  How much is an hour of activity worth to you?  A movie is about 10 bucks in a cinema.  Thats about 5 bucks an hour, depending on the film.  Watching nature, hiking, glassing, is all free minus the transportation, food, and equipment costs.  I dont remember the last time I came home excited about spending 2 dollars a lb on meat?  I do remember the times I bring game home, or have a relaxing/hard working weekend in the field.
Every year i travel to chitina to dipnet for reds.  I get 30 fish usually 29 reds and a king.  I drive up from homer round trip about 1000 miles.  I could buy fish from comercial fisherman for  10 bucks a red.  so around 300 dollars.  I think I still would rather go dip them my self.  Its all about perspective I guess.  What is your time worth to you?
