Not True Meindls?
Posted by blackfoot on Jan 16 2006
I searched the archives about Meindls and read some posts that knock the Meindls that Cabelas sells also.  I have two pair, the Alaska Hunters and a lower boot that I got about 5-6 years ago.  They have outperformed any other boot I have had, including Danner and Vasque.  I don't know the facts, but I would bet that the people that are saying that the Cabelas Meindls are somehow inferior to more expensive ones from a Canadian outfitter don't have the facts either.  This happens a lot with products that large companies can offer less expensive than others.  It's not that the quality is any different, it's that Cabelas probably made a deal to take a certain quantity of boots to reduce their price from the manufacturer.  Then either somebody that paid a lot more for the same thing, or somebody that sells the same thing for more starts telling people that the Cabelas boots are inferior for some mythic reason that can't really be pointed out or proven.  This happens all the time with Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot, etc.  Not that Wal-Mart doesn't sell junk for the most part, but their junk is the same exact thing as anybody else's, just cheaper.  It's called buying power and operating costs, but for some reason people have to come up with another reason just so they feel better about not buying something at Cabelas or Wal-Mart.  I could be wrong, the Cabelas boots may be made to a lower standard, but I have yet to find proof of it, and nobody has actually presented proof of it.  All I know is they have been very good for me.
