Thanks Thenarwhal and Muskeg,
I am not trying to be antagonistic in my questions, but I do think that the Federal government has overstep their authority when it comes to fish and wildlife in Alaska. How soon we forget that the federalist did not right the constitution and that the Civil war was fought for states rights and not just slavery. However, slavery has become the end result as we allow bureaucratese and politicians to enslaves us with turf-war trade laws and ever increasing taxation and fees.
Only some twenty some odd years ago, the Governor of Nevada and miners, ranchers, businessman etc. come to the realization that Nevada was the nations most federally owned state and that due to the gaming industry, it paid out six times more in revenue to the federal government than it received back in grants, highway funds, education, and other aid. The turning point was over water and fixing a community water pipe that had broken in Great Basin National Park. This small battle started what we now know as the Sage Brush Rebellion as other western state joined in on the rights of states and the federal government control in their state. Some laws were changed some were not, but what did come out of this conflict was a group of rural western Governors, senators, congressmen that vowed to vote together to limit the amount of federal control that could be inserted against any one state. I believe that Alaska is part of what is now known as the Cowboy Caucus and for good reason. Alaska to is the third most Federally owned State and pays far more in federal tax revenue than it will ever recover.
My point here is that local government understand local problems and issues much better than Uncle Sam. It only makes sense to have local and state government instituting laws that effect their food sources, resources and ways of life. The federal role should be limited to protecting our civil liberties.
My two nickles....
