This topic should not create so much animosity

as we are all going to do what we are going to do anyway! I would argue that most people killed in hunting accidents each year is not entirely caused by people carrying loaded guns while hunting and accidentally misfiring a weapon into a friend or family member. We all have to remember that we are carrying tools that were created for one purpose and one purpose only, KILLING! Whether for fighting wars, for Law enforcement purposes, or for sport hunting. Everything on the downrange end of a firearm is in the crosshairs. Last year I remember hearing the story of the client that was shot by his guide in the heat of the moment hunting Brown Bear. That to me would be a far more common tragedy in our nation than the misfire type in the field. And also how many of us have heard a story of someone being shot while cleaning a firearm, I mean , Hello that is just pure negligence/stupidity. The discussions in this post are also why we like to hunt with people we know well and trust and probably why we dont like going hunting with people we dont know. In my opinion it all falls back on being responsible and using the same level of professionalism and awareness as a soldier in war walking with his comrades side by side and front to back looking forward and wtahcing your 6 at the same time. The problem is there are a lot of hunters ( if you want to call them hunters) that buy a gun head for the woods after a few rounds at the range and a trip to the local sporting goods store where they leave with a truck full of Camo and they are ready to kill anything that walks, those guys worry me a whole bunch more than my buddy shooting me in the back while out in the woods. There are a lot of gun handling rule of thumbs and I know that I have not followed all of them as there are times when you just have to break the rule to feel better about the situation you are in but make aure your partners are aware of whats going on. There are too many scenarios in which one would break a rule of thumb to list them all. I guess it all boils down to all of us using our heads and some common sense! Be safe as everytime we screw up the the anti's have that much more ammo to scrutinize our favorite passions.
