not opportunity
Posted by twodux on Jan 13 2006
They aren't selling you an opportunity to hunt for a bear or any other species. They are selling access to their property. I have no problem with that. And I have no problem with them closing all their land to non shareholders.

The state gives me the opportunity to hunt by setting the seasons and areas. If the corporation was selling me the opportunity, they'd be setting the season and area. They don't have that authority. Also, there is no guarantee that there is even a bear on their property at a given time. They are selling you access to their property, period. As far as what you are getting from them, there is no difference between what a deer hunter recieves and what a bear hunter recieves from the corporation. I believe if this was challenged in court, they would lose. What the result of that would be is debateable.

For the name callers. There is no place here that I have said they shouldn't be able to charge a fee and make money off their land. Or close their land period. I just feel it's wrong for them to charge by the particular animal you are persuing as they don't own the animals. If they did own them, I wouldn't be able to shoot them when they stepped off corporation land.
