Just spent the evening with a young fellow, whose father was killed this past season while caribou hunting. Seems as though one member of their party always loaded his weapon. While the father was loading the boat, the rifle discharged. It was a long enduring effort to attempt to safe his father. You might have read half the story in the Anchorage Daily News, the other half of the story is so sordid that it does not warrant public scrutiny. Suffice to say, it has changed all these hunters lives forever. Hunting is not even in their vocabulary now.
I personally carry the weapon mt until the moment of use. I insist any I hunt with do the same. Anyone doing otherwise is not welcome in our camp.
Alaska is big country and medical help is a long ways away.
