Most of you don't know or understand, and some of you have apparently forgotten, much of the purpose of ANCSA. It was to bring alaska's natives into the 20th century. To bring them into our cash economy. Here is a native corp., Afognak, doing JUST that, and you all are whining. What would you have them do with that land? Tear it up for minerals? Logg it off? Maybe they should just sit back and collect welfare and shut up so all the guides and city boys who want to hunt can do it there for free.
Afognak native corp. is attempting to make a profit off of THEIR legally owned land. MORE POWER TO THEM!
What some of you whiners also fail to realize is if MORE native corps did this, there would be LESS crowding in this state. NANA (kotz area) owns large parcels of prime hunting land that is completely off limits to non shareholders. Sure would be nice if they would at least let folks in for a fee.
Maybe it would be better if the native corps just logged, mined, developed, their lands. At least that would be FAIR!!!!!!!!!!
