public property
Posted by twodux on Jan 12 2006
Micheal,

If you alter public property,(build a strip, dam a stream, put out a duck cabin) it still doesn't make it yours. In fact, did you have a permit from the proper agency to alter that public property? It sounds like you were trespassing on all of our property then got mad at someone else who did the same thing.

Would you have been just as upset with someone who hiked all the way in to where you were? Probably. When you use public property, you have to remember who it really belongs to, and it's not you. What if somebody got in there ahead of you in an area you had hunted for years and you'd put a strip in? Would you still hunt there?

That all being said, I personally avoid an area where other hunters are already located if I know they are there ahead of time, but if I end up close by, I'll try to talk with them and and find out where they plan on hunting and I'll try to hunt in a direction where I won't bother them. Some people are very reasonable and some aren't. But the fact is, when you hunt public land, other people have the right to be there too. Just because you're licensed to guide in an area, doesn't give you ANY more rights than any other hunter to be in a particular spot.
