Math Lessons
Posted by Michael Strahan on Jan 12 2006
Sir,
I'm not very good at math either, but I think if a guy doesn't have all the numbers, he's probably not gonna be able to solve the equation.
You asked about the eight sheep hunters we had in camp that year and speculated that I made "an easy $60,000" on that hunt. The fact is that I was working for another guide and was actually guiding only one of those hunters for wages. A friend of mine runs that outfit and he got in a bind that year, so I was helping him out (he had too many hunters and not enough guides). I was on that hunt for two weeks and made, before expenses, about $2000 in wages, substantially below what I would have made at my regular job. I already explained why I do this, but it appears you have something else in mind.
Sometimes just a little more information can lead to an entirely different conclusion. All a guy has to do is ask.
I apologise for the somewhat strident tones in my reply, however you hit one of my "hot" buttons when you suggested that I am something less than honest. I realize I don't need to explain any of this to anyone, but the fact that I did will hopefully say something meaningful to you. I believe in the basic goodness of people, and sometimes it takes me a while to give up on folks who appear unwilling or unable to listen to reason. I trust you are not one of those.
If you are interested in discussing this further, by all means drop me a private message and I'd be delighted to do so; but let's keep public posts somewhat less offensive.
Thank you for taking the time to write.
-Mike
