Posted by GunsmithRob on Jan 11 2006 Twodux brought up a good point in another post that I think needs to be discussed as it's own topic. I'm not sure about the rest of the state but Afognak Is. has varying fees for access depending on what you're doing. The higher the trophy value of a species you're hunting, the higher the fee. I don't mind paying an access fee to hunt on native land holdings but I'll be damned if they're going to sell me something that belongs to us all already. Personally, if I drew a bear or elk tag over there, I'd pay the hiking/camping fee because until I shoot something, I'm just hiking with a rifle (or bow in my case). If they want to push it after I have something on the ground, they can take me to court over the sale of a public resource. I think that's what it's going to take to challenge this. However, it's easy for me to say since I've got no desire to hunt over there. I've got plenty of better places to go that I don't have to pay an access fee for.
