[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] brands Posted by AK-HUNT on Jan 11 2006 I do not know what kind of Nikon I owned, but it was the first and last. I also used a pair of Nikon binos for a weekend. Same impression. I do own a Nikon spotting scope and like it well enough. A person likes what they like and I am not saying someone shouldn't buy nikon products. HOWEVER in all fairness, unless things have changed ALOT Wind Rivers are not true leupolds. (Compare VXIII's to the nikon if you want) I checked into wind river's at the company a while back and the Wind Rivers are made overseas (Korea I think) and stamped with the Wind river stamp. Notice they don't have the "gold ring". They are not the same anything to Leupold glass. Again, this was a couple years ago and things could have changed. As for not needing a warranty thats a person's preference, but a hunting partner of mine had some very old (like early 80's)gold rings and busted them up sheep hunting a couple seasons ago and sent them back and they replaced everything except the original cast tubes! Like a new pair! I busted up a leupold scope personally on a sheep hunt. There's two pretty good examples but like I said I could not care less what anyone buys but to say a customer service dept is of no use isn't true unless you don't use your gear very hard. Also, I think I mentioned I bought a Zeiss scope a while back and it shames them all but I bet I can't get it back from service in a week's time when I bust it up.
