period rifles
Posted by OldDuckHunter on Sep 02 2005
Hi,

Great information and I appreciate your time in typing it up. I had a peep-site .22 bolt action rifle when I was a kid. Never used it for hunting because the .20-gauge was easier. I don't recall the law at the time, but we always heard it was illegal (as well as dumb) to go duck hunting with a rifle because the .22 long or .22 long rifle had a range of a mile and might come to earth anywhere. So, when I mentioned the scope, I wonder if 30-30 and 30-06 had peep-sites or some other iron site that might be less cumbersome than the scope.

Actually, the guy in the book isn't going to be shooting at a duck. There's a rifle handy when a predator flies over the sheep ranch and he takes a shot at it.

Old Duck

P.S. I like to acknowledge the folks who help with info for my books, so if you don't mind being acknowledged, can you tell me your name, either here on the forum or via e-mail to grinnellglacier@yahoo.com?
