Your not a hunter if...........

hntrnut, the hillbilly gave you the address for the only website(at least that I'm aware of) that has sat collar info on the WACH. That particular website is updated every week or so, but the locations of the individual animals are several days old each time the map is updated. Unfortunately, the map does not cover most of unit 23.
What you can do to get somewhat better, and more exact info is call an ADF&G office and ask them where caribou are located. I'm not sure if any office in the state has the info, but I know Nome, and Kotz do. The state gets info from the argo's satellite. That info comes in the form of coordinates. A F&G employee corelates that info onto a map which the bios can use. I just got off the phone with the bio in nome. There are currently no collars near the kobuk river, and very few even south of the Noatak. I don't think anyone at F&G is going to give you lat/long coords of individual animals, but they will advise you on caribou in drainages and areas. You must realize that there are a limited number of collars and there may well be bou in places and no collared animals in the group.
Please disregard the fellas that feel they are such ethical hunters and there is something wrong with using technology to your advantage. I assure you these guys aren't walking into the field with skin clothing and self made spears. Anyone familiar with caribou hunting knows that any locational info one gets is only good for a few hrs at best. One can "hunt" for days only to find out that bou were right over the one hill you didn't walk up. There's nothing wrong with wanting to know if animals are in the area you want to hunt.
