A rancher, back in the 60's? How about an open sighted Winchester lever action in a .25-.35 cartridge. Or maybe a .30WCF. 25 yr's ago I shot a flying crow at 150 yd's with a Marlin bolt action .22. Surprised the heck out of me. Haven't tried anything like that since.
