In regards to editing and deleting a message that has been posted. Something that you may want to consider is programming the forum to give the author of a message a window of time, say one or even two hours after he or she has submitted  a message to edit or change the message before thread messages are allowed to attach.
With deletion how about an expiration period instead. For example the author is given an option to post a message for one or two weeks after that time period has expired the message including all thread messages are automatically deleted. Just an idea. Thanks.
