The word from SAR experts- WGS84!
Posted by Michael Strahan on Aug 04 2005
Okay folks,

I just received an email from my friend who retired from his work as a Blackhawk pilot doing a lot of Search and Recovery (SAR) work in Alaska.  The word is that the military SAR folks are still using WGS84.  So... there you have it, from the horse's mouth.

For those interested, this is from a retired Colonel who now works as a private contractor with the Alaskan Command out at Elmendorf AFB here in Anchorage.  He's personally logged many hundreds of flight hours on rescue missions here in Alaska, so he should be a reliable source.

Hope this helps!

-Mike
