Good point-

I sent an email yesterday to a friend of mine who used to fly blackhawks for the military; he held the high-altitude rescue record on Denali for many years.  He's a retired Colonel with mucho hours on rescue missions here in Alaska.  Anyway, I'll relay what he has to say on this as soon as I hear from him.

What I can say is that in the one rescue I had to coordinate from the field, I used degrees-minutes-seconds and I think I was using WGS84.  They flew right to our camp with nothing more than that.  Good thing, too.  Without their help we would have lost the guy.  He had a tumor in his stomach, and an artery associated with it ruptured.  He nearly bled to death.  Emergency communications gear?  Gotta have it.  Gotta know how to use it.
