there is always the potential to see them around fingermountian though the heard is usually farther away, there are resident animals that will tend to hang out in this area to the east with the occasional sighting of an animal moving through.

If it were me I would bet north of the pass also....to the tune of sagwon (happy valley) or north however we've seen great numbers of animals that time of year at galbreth and toolik areas.

They are where they area, not real rocket science, heck they are lost themselves ;).  One thing I have noticed earlier in the season is these herds have a tendancy to move RAPIDLY.  That is more right now to early august.  Small and large herds alike.  It's amazing to see 500 animals, in 30 minutes go from one horizon to the other. I do know of guys who like to camp near franklin bluffs on the north side and glass waiting for herds to come.  They spend days in camp waiting and move out when the animals make their way to the river hopefully ambusing them before they get to the hunters side of the river banks (ie cover in the river bed).   Simple technique that is quite effective if you have the patience and truely believe the caribou are going to come by.
