kodiak deer...
Posted by fullkurl on Jul 28 2005
The Nov. rut is a great time if you like to rattle & grunt up big bucks and hunt the lowlands all the way up to the high country.  Its gorgeous up high on Kodiak--but its work!  The alders offer no help in climbing, they seem to all be rotten and crumble when you grab them. Its work.
The bears are a pain, we encountered them often on our last Nov 9th-15th hunt.
The big bucks were really moving at that time.  We had some 'end of the trip' snowfall and the deer got down low fairly quickly.  The Dec hunt idea might be a good one, donno if the bucks are still as hot on does or just looking for sea kelp etc. on the shorelines. Probably still does in estrous at that time.
Personally I'd enjoy a trip with the bear encounter odds decreased--probably pointing to the Dec. hunt.  If you like to predator call, don't forget the abundant foxes, get a rabbit call or something similar and watch the fox come in--great fun!...Good hunting Terry.           fk
