Alaska Bush Man and Sabots
Posted by John Pirog on Jun 30 2005
Alaska Bush Man,

In an earlier post you mentioned that we should leave the sabots for deer hunting - and I am wondering why.  I use the 3/4 oz Federal Sabot with a Barnes expander slug (328 grains, 1900 fps).  My thought process is that the lighter slug with greater speed gives me about 200 more ft lbs of energy over the heavier (1oz) Brennekes (437 grains, 1600 fps).  I know that pinpoint accuracy is not at a premium in a bear charge, but I also like the much greater accuracy of the sabots.

Where am I going wrong in my logic?

Thanks,

John
